When I was in high school, our principal walked out on the basketball court at lunchtime one day and called for the ball. Standing at halfcourt, he put up a hook shot, and it went in. They threw him the ball again, and his next hook shot rimmed out, hit the backboard and just missed bouncing back in. His third hook shot was nothing but net.
It's been 40-some years since then, and I'm still amazed.
That same year, one of my high-school teammates was playing for our varsity team. He grabbed a defensive rebound, jumped up in the air and fired a full-court pass to a teammate under our basket. The teammate never had a chance; the ball went right through the basket. It's a shame they didn't have the 3-point shot back then (or a 10-point shot).
I've covered sports for more than 30 years, and I've never seen anything to compare with either incidence.
