REMEMBERING THE MOVIE HATARI!

I've enjoyed the movie Hatari! since I was a kid.

Still, there were things about the movie I didn't notice at first. When they are in two vehicles and going home drunk, they are singing into two mikes. Wouldn't work; you can only talk when the other mike is off.

When they catch a giraffe, they look like the great shot of WWII soldiers raising a flag on Iwo Jima. Dallas, a professional photographer, sits there like a tourist and doesn't take one photo.

One thing that bothered me came near the end, when the little elephants found Dallas. When she was sitting there crying, Dallas's words did not match her lips. Maybe she did a voiceover later, the way Humphrey Bogart did with his "Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" line in Casablanca.

I always assumed that the Indian's encounter with the rhino was in the script. Then a year or so ago I noticed that the Indian (Bruce Cabot) had hooked his cane over his arm when he was standing. It took me several years after I got my first cane to come up with the cane-over-the-arm trick. So he was skilled with it by then.

Thus, I have to assume that the actor was already limping and using a cane, and they used the rhino to work his cane and limp into the script.

I may have more to say later, but now I'll let you enjoy the clips below.
