1493 AND 1813
![]() |
| 1972 DOLPHINS |
What do you think of when you hear 1493? 1492, of course, the year Columbus sailed the ocean blue. And if I hear 492, I STILL think of 1492.
What about 1813? I said I thought of the War of 1812, and a classmate said that wasn't even the same year. I later learned that the War of 1812 lasted from June 18, 1812 until Feb. 17, 1815. So 1813 was appropriate. Our teacher agreed.
The year 1962 makes me think of Kennedy's assassination, even though he died in 1963. In fact, I think of JFK's assassination every Nov. 22.
Others: 1860, the Civil War, even though it started a year later; 1940, World War II, even though we didn't enter it until December 1941.
