So far, I've hated the "holodeck episode" of Strange New Worlds. I didn't care for the part where Paul Wesley was channeling William Shatner on The Last Frontier, and I've pretty much hated the murder mystery featuring La'an and the rest of the SNW cast.
Number One is wearing a wig and outfit that make her look like Cinnamon Carter on Mission Impossible. (Since Number One's character was the most interesting, she just got killed off, poison.) The above review said that Number One represented Lucille Ball, who greenlit Star Trek in the 1960s. I didn't see it.
Scotty and Pelia are about the only regulars who aren't on the holodeck. Pelia is on leave, and it's up to Scotty to control the power drain on the holodeck.
Interestingly, The Last Frontier parody became funny at the end. I loved it.
Still, the episode was too much like Elementary, My Dear Data from TNG, with La'an's holodeck character replacing Jean-Luc Picard's Dixon Hill.
I enjoyed the part where they were trying to get away from the neutron star; it seemed more "real" to me. And it was more like real Star Trek.
Overall, I enjoyed the episode more than I did at the beginning; not great, but better. Paul Wesley stood out both as Shatner and as his holodeck character in the whodunit. I've enjoyed the new character arc for La'an, although having Spock and La'an hook up so quickly is much too much.
