Two catches, 112 yards and two touchdowns

Years ago, I covered a high-school football game and wrote that a halfback had caught two passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

A fellow employee asked how that could be. I told him that the halfback caught a flat pass, trampled about five defenders and raced 76 yards for a touchdown. Then later, he caught another flat pass, trampled about five defenders and raced 36 yards for a touchdown.

That adds up to two catches, 112 yards and two touchdowns. Plus several hurting defensive players.

That kid later played football at Winston-Salem State University.
