When I was in high school, we got one TV channel, NBC, so I never saw the NFL. I watched the AFL, and the Raiders, Jets and Chiefs were usually on the air.
Back then, the most frightening quarterback was Joe Namath. Broadway Joe had unreal arm talent, with a tremendous arm and the best release ever.
When Dan Marino came along in 1983, I thought, "Oh, my goodness, he throws like Namath. Same power and release." Then 17 years later, I was watching a film of Namath, and I thought, "He throws just like Marino. Same power and release."
It tied two eras of football together.
By the way, I became a Dolphins fan in 1969. They were on NBC, and someone, maybe Karl Kremser, kicked the ball into the dolphin tank beyond the end zone. The dolphin caught the ball with its snout and fired it back onto the field.
That's not the only reason I became a Phin fan, but it caught my attention.
