North to Pennsylvania

I had an interesting conversation with a young man last evening. You have to remember that we're in North Carolina.

I said I had in-laws in Pennsylvania, and he said he had family in Rhode Island. Then he said that, of course, Pennsylvania is far north of Rhode Island.

We didn't get to continue the conversation, as he was at work. I knew that Rhode Island is north of Pennsylvania, so I looked it up. Actually, it's not as far as I thought. Providence, R.I., is about 270 miles northeast of Philadelphia.

Still, I was amazed at his lack of knowledge about geography. But maybe it's NOT amazing.
