The first episode of the second season had very little Star Trek in it. They'd argue that our heroes prevented an intergalactic war, but they had Spock stealing the Enterprise (shades of The Menagerie), the top two members of the medical staff bashing Klingons (not likely, even with chemistry and science), and Spock drinking bloodwine with the Klingons (unbelievable).
The original trio -- Kirk, Spock and Bones -- would be appalled.
And Captain Pike wasn't in most of the episode, forcing Spock to make questionable command decisions.
I hated the first three quarters of the show and loved the ending.
At least it wasn't a total waste, but let's hope they do better next week.
PS: Some people loved Carol Kane's character, but I already hate it. And that will be an ongoing problem.
