RECOGNIZING FACES on EMERGENCY!

I WATCH A LOT of the old Emergency! TV show, and I've noted when we're riding with the squad truck. Four times in a row, I noticed them turn left and have to avoid a white car that's slightly straddling the road. Just now, they pulled out and there was no white car. At least they had TWO stock shots to use.

In the season-four episode Quicker Than the Eye, champion swimmer Mark Spitz appeared as a husband, with Suzy Spitz (Mark's real wife) playing his pregnant wife.

I'VE SEEN A LOT of animals lately on Emergency!, including a king cobra, a bear, a lion and, now, my second tiger. Plus a cat and her bunch of kittens. The episode about the cats and second tiger is about animal control. One of the AC guys is a young Mark Harmon. Another is Gary Crosby. The vet checking the tiger is David Huddleston. Virginia Gregg is in this show. And the director was Jack Webb. Apparently, this was a failed pilot for an animal-control show.

IN SEASON THREE, Johnny Gage is going to give the bad news to a young widow. She looked up, and I knew it was Linda Kelsey, who later played a newspaperwoman on the Lou Grant show.

I REMEMBER seeing the episode featuring Miami Dolphins great Larry Csonka. It was called The Screenwriter. Csonka was my favorite football player.

I JUST RECOGNIZED a voice on Emergency! in an episode called Kids. It was John Travolta. I also recognized the face, but it wasn't onscreen for long.

In the episode Virus, I didn't recognize an actress until she smiled late in the episode. Those were Cathy Lee Crosby's dimples.

In Peace Pipe, I recognized William Campbell (Star Trek's Trelane) as a drunk driver/patient. I also recognized Brooke Bundy, although I didn't know her name.

In Saddled, I saw Larry Storch (F-Troop) and later spied a nun who resembled Fran Belding on Ironside. It turned out to be Elizabeth Baur, who played Belding.

In the same episode, I recognized a nurse but could only think Deidre. It was Deidre Hall, later a famous soap-opera actress from Days of Our Lives.

In The Hard Hours, Dick Butkus and Nick Nolte showed up. Butkus (a patient) was famous then; Nolte (a doctor) became famous later.

James Shigeta (Diehard) appeared on the episode Foreign Trade as the new hospital administrator. Not surprisingly, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar got stuck in a car.

I'M WATCHING an episode of Emergency! called Mascot. A man appears to be having a heart attack, and I thought the man looked like Jock Mahoney. I looked up the cast, and it was Mahoney.

His character was an actor who liked to play tricks on his friends, and the partygoers thought he was making it up. He wasn't. They had to cardiovert him.

Fuzz Lady was a gold mine of faces, including Sharon Gless (Cagney and Lacey), Paul Fix (The Rifleman) and J. Pat O'Malley. Meg Wyllie (Star Trek's The Cage) was near the bottom of the cast listings.

I'm watching a season two episode called Syndrome, and I recognized Robert Alda (Alan's dad), Jack Carter and Dub Taylor.

In the season two episode Boot, I immediately recognized Vic Tayback (Alice) and Jamie Farr (M*A*S*H). I thought I recognized Paula Prentiss; it was her sister, Ann. I also recognized Jock Mahoney again.

In the episode Zero, I saw Dick EnbergMariette Hartley and Anthony Eisley.
