Years ago, I covered a high-school football game and wrote that a halfback had caught two passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns.
A fellow employee asked how that could be. I told him that the halfback caught a flat pass, trampled about five defenders and raced 76 yards for a touchdown. Then later, he caught another flat pass, trampled about five defenders and raced 36 yards for a touchdown.
That adds up to two catches, 112 yards and two touchdowns. Plus several hurting defensive players.
That kid later played football at Winston-Salem State University.
