I have to admit that I didn't watch all 56 minutes of episode nine of season three of Strange New Worlds. I watched the first 24 minutes and saw that Erica Ortegas was facing a Gorn. Then I skipped to the last few minutes and saw La'an kill the Gorn, then see the aftermath.
I realized that this was the situation of Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. in the movie Enemy Mine and several Star Trek episodes, including Darmoc, featuring Patrick Stewart and Paul Winfield.
The Metron harkened us back to Star Trek's episode Arena, featuring Captain Kirk and the rubber-suited Gorn, and the mention of Captain Decker made one think of The Doomsday Machine, featuring William Windom as Captain Decker.
I enjoyed the excitement of the situation, but I was almost saddened that Erica was rescued. I like the character and the actress who plays her, but it would have been more powerful if she hadn't made it back.
You can't help feeling sorry for that Gorn.
When I'm ready, I'll go back and watch the whole thing. I will say that it's one of the better episodes of season three.
