More Sports Xtra stories

ATKINS HIGH SCHOOL

 Focus On: Steven Hardge

 Steven Hardge of Atkins wishes he hadn't waited until his senior year to run track.

 Focus On: Demarion Ingram

 At 6-foot and 293 pounds, Atkins sophomore Demarion Ingram is not the average tennis player.

 Focus On: Kyra Brown

 It still bothers junior Kyra Brown that she sat out her sophomore track-and-field season at Atkins.

Junior Harold Blakely runs the 200 and 400 meters and the 4x200- and 4x400-meter relays for the Atkins track team.
Zhane' LeGrant isn't a dirty softball player for Atkins; she just likes to get dirty.



Despite being 5-foot-2, senior Tamarra Montgomery played small forward for the Atkins girls basketball team.



Junior center Josh Howell "is probably our most courageous player," coach Bobby Moore of Atkins said.



The name Robert Moore holds plenty of significance in the history of Atkins High School.

EAST FORSYTH

Focus On: Clara Fishel

Clara Fishel, a senior at East Forsyth, loves softball.

Focus On: Josh Roberts

Josh Roberts is among the best pole vaulters in the state — he was fourth in the NCHSAA 4-A state championships last year — but he's not East Forsyth's top vaulter. Austin Vegas, who regularly clears 15 feet, is No. 1.

Focus On: Megan Roberson

Megan Roberson said she lucked into being East Forsyth's goalkeeper for four years.

Senior second baseman Evan Rogers said that defense has been his strength during his 2½ seasons on the East Forsyth baseball team.
